Filthy Thieving Bastards cont
The groups first release, Our Fathers Sent Us (TKO, 2000) gave hint that this “side project” would prove to be more than just that. Their debut full length A Melody Of Retreads and Broken Quills(BYO, 2001), threw out all punk rock convention. They put down 15 tracks that stopped all comparisons to each members’ other band. This, unlike anything they had recorded, stood on it’s own, pared down and simple, a soul bearing tribute to such predecessors as the Pogues and even a little Johnny Cash.
Next came their 3rd album, My Pappy Was A Pistol (BYO, 2005). With 4 years since their last release, the group had time to incubate and hit their stride. They ramped up musicianship, the songwriting, and churned out what is well regarded as a classic amongst the underground masses. With Spider Stacy of the Pogues guesting on the album, they (ifll in the blank) And now, with the companion album, their fourth full length, I’m A Son Of A Gun set to be released March 28, 2007 via BYO Records, they’ve rounded it all out. More hints that their time machine goes back, not forward.
With FTB, we all get what we’ve been wishing for. Songs that are not disposable. Songs that are heartfelt and real. No fuss, no frills, just good ‘ol fashioned songwriting.
