Filthy Thieving Bastards
Filthy Thieving Bastards have well established that they are masters in the art of songwriting. With veteran talents like Johnny Bonnel and Darius Koski of the beloved SF Street Punk band, Swinging Utters, Spike Slawson of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, and longtime producer, Randy Burke on drums, what results is hard to resist. They make catchy folks tunes that make you tap your feet and sing along and wish that instead of discovering them on some website or listening to some radio show, that you’d found them one lonely rainy day by stumbling in some sad pub on the wrong side of town. It all seems so simple at first listen, but with each time you press play, you will discover layers of depth and melancholy and heartbreak and defiance worthy of any punk tune except set to Pogues-like ballads. Each is carefully crafted and at points, you will find yourself wrapped in the story that is being woven and at other times, you will find yourself lost in glee to the music with no regard to what is being said. This kind of songwriting is something of a lost art in the modern age. There are no tricks here, just a lot of care in each heartfelt tune.
